During the last 10 years they have had an annual growth between 4 and 6% and a rapidly growing middle class with an exploding buying power. Bangladesh has come out of the financial crisis with only a minor decline in their growth.
IMF expects a high economic growth in Bangladesh till 2015. Their position in South East Asia gives the oportunity to take part in the the economic growth in the region. English is business language. Every year approx 3000 engineers are gradulated from the universities. Access to trained labour is good.
Potential for Norwegian companies
Bangladesh is an emerging economy. The growing market should be of interest for companies working within energy (renewable energy, gas, transmission etc), IT and mobile phone applications. Other sectors will be mechanical industry and aquaculture. The country also offers competent, low-cost labour and good conditions for outsourcing within sectors such as textile and garment industry, software development, china and more.
Bangladesh has 3 key attractions:
1) A large base of low-cost and easlily trainable labour force
2) A large untapped domestic market of 160 million people
3) A market access to nearly 3 billion people in the Asian region
About our office – What we do
The office is mainly servicing companies recruited into the Business MatchMaking Programme Banglasdesh. BMMP Bangladesh was launched in November 2010.
Tazeen Choudhury is the programme manager and will be the one preparing the partner search and follow up towards Norwegian and Bangladesh companies.
