Why South Africa?

The objective of the Program, which was introduced in 1997, is to establish sustainable and profitable business ventures between Norwegian and South African companies.

This is achieved through the development of business partnerships which foster transfer of technology and the exchange of business skills.

The most common form of partnerships involves:
- Joint Ventures

- Outsourcing

- License production

- Long term project co-operation

- Market collaboration / development

Since 1997 approximately 287 Norwegian companies have participated in the Program which has resulted in 107 matches. 

There is no sector limitation in the program.  However, there has been a certain focus on Oil & Gas, ICT, Energy and Trade was recently included into the program.
Basic Criteria.

Norwegian companies participating in the Program should have the necessary resources required for international collaboration. This includes adequate technical competence and management capacity / skills, along with adequate financial resources to fulfill the project and establish the partnership. 

The participants should have a long-term objective with the intention of being active partners prepared to take the necessary risk in the project.  This implies a certain size of the company in terms of turnover, adequate equity capital and long term finances.

The companies should have been in operation for more than 3 years and it is required that the participation in the Program should be included in a strategic plan and approved by a Board of Directors. 

Norwegian companies will be charged a nominal fee of Nok 8000 for participation in the Program.

When partnership is agreed on or established Norad may offer considerable support related to for instance feasibillity studies, training etc.
