Romania: Photovoltaic System to Produce Electricity

Ocna Mures in Romania is building a photovoltaic power plant to supply its electricity with funding from the EEA and Norway Grants.

Ocna Mures is a won in Central–Western Romania, on the left bank of Mures river. A major role in city’s development is related to the important local natural resource which is salt. Salt extraction shaped the history and development of the area. However, it also determined a series of disasters that shaped the destinies of its inhabitants.

The project aim is to reduce the CO2 emissions by producing energy from green sources. With funding from the EEA and Norway Grants, through the Energy Programme in Romania, the town is building photovoltaic power plant to supply its electricity.

The investment is on a 19,500 sqm plot of land owned by Ocna Mures Municipality. The investment will cover only 6,000 sqm. The photovoltaic power plant will produce yearly 630 MWh, which will contribute to reducing the CO2 emissions with 192.78 tones. The power plant will have a total installed capacity of 0,483 MW consisting of 1,584 panels (305Wp/panel). Ocna Mures will discharge the energy produced in the grid and will compensate with the usual consumption from the grid.
