Romania Energy: Photovoltaic System to Produce Electricity for Ocna Mures Municipality

Lightbulb energy
Hear from Ocna Mures Municipality in Romania, where they are implementing a project that is reducing the costs of energy by providing sustainable energy for the public lighting system with photovoltaic panels. The project is supported by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the EEA and Norway Grants programme on energy in Romania.

The project is part of the Energy Programme in Romania, operated by Innovation Norway and financed by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the EEA and Norway Grants. The project will reduce the CO2 emissions by increasing the consumption of energy produced from green sources. The project is building a photovoltaic power plant to supply electricity for Ocna Mures Municipality. The investment will cover only 6,000 sqm. The plot of land has the advantage of being close to the discharging point in the grid owned by the electricity distribution company.

The project is implemented in Unirea Commune, Alba County, on a 19,500 sqm plot of land owned by Ocna Mures Municipality. The project will provide sustainable energy for the public lighting system of Ocna Mureș Municipality as well as the buildings of the City Hall with its various public services, the Technological College and the ”Lucian Blaga” School.

Project Testimonial

Reducing Costs with Green Energy

The photovoltaic power plant will produce yearly 630 MWh, which will contribute to reducing the CO2 emissions with 192,78 tonnes. The power plant will have a total installed capacity of 0,483 MW consisting of 1.584 panels (305Wp/panel). The panels will be located on the ground using an aluminium and galvanized gripping and fastening system which protects the terrain and plants. It is considered an optimum system design thanks to multi-string concept and step-up converter. A preliminary stage was already performed, i.e. field studies, documentation to get the requested authorizations and the feasibility study was drafted.

Expected results

  • The installement of 1584 photovaltaic panels
  • An estimated 630MWh renewable energy produced per year
  • An estimated 441 t decrease of CO2 emissions per year
