The factory building© Alba Iulia Municipality
Alba Iulia Municipality in Romania is implementing various energy efficiency measures with support from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the EEA and Norway Grants.

Alba Iulia Municipality performed an energy audit report and identified various measures which would increase the energy efficiency of their Olympic Swimming Pool. The rehabilitation of the Olympic Swimming Pool building will reduce the energy consumption, ensure financial savings n the municipal budget, and improve conditions for the public and for the employees.

The introduction of energy efficiency in the public sector will also increase the comfort level of the population. The socio-economic benefit of the project is reflected in future cost savings, which means that municipal funds can be used for other important investments.

The objective is to implement seven energy efficiency measures:

  1. Retrofit the lighting system with led lamps
  2. Exterior shading aluminium blinds at the north-west and south-east windows will be installed
  3. Heat plant retrofit with two gas boilers to replace the old ones
  4. Thermodynamic solar panels will be installed (ambient-water heat pumps)
  5. High efficiency small scale combined heat and power system
  6. Variable air flow control with automation and electronic converter drive to the existing air handler unit
  7. Building energy management system
