Romania: Romanian biochar company greens production and boosts profitability

Production facilities for greens
By producing biochar, Explocom GK reduces wood waste and uses innovative solutions to improve the company's sustainable development. With financing from Norway, the project has resulted in the incorporation of pyrolysis technology into their workflow thus creating 12 new jobs.

Explocom is a manufacturer of organic chemicals, but also a producer of charcoal and bulk char for industries. Wood waste became part of the production process in 2007, and they are aiming to improve their competitiveness by focusing on innovative and sustainable development.

The project financed by Norway led to the development of new products such as biochar, wood vinegar, wood oil and cellulosic alcohol, further utilizing and reducing wood waste, and ultimately contributing to a substantial CO2 reduction in their production processes.

The products have a wide range of applications and are mainly used in agriculture as pesticides and fertilisers. Biochar helps improve the farming productivity for organic and bio-farmers.
