Romania: Photovoltaic Panels to Increase Energy Efficiency for Romatsa

Romatsa in Romania is installing photovoltaic power plant to increase the efficiency of energy used in their buildings.

The Romanian Administration of Air Traffic Services (ROMATSA), has a long-term strategic objective to increase the efficiency of energy use in the buildings it operates. ROMATSA has a constant goal of ensuring air traffic services in cost-effective conditions, with a low impact on the environment.

The objective is to install photovoltaic panels on the parking space by their buildings in the capital of Romania, Bucharest. That way the cars can be parked under the panels. The photovoltaic system consists of 841 panels with a total installed power of 458 kWp.

The project is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norwegian Grants.

Results of the project

  • Reduced electricity consumption by 9,26%
  • Reduced electricity costs by 10,51%
  • Redueed greenhouse emissions by around 150 tonnes/CO2 which is 9% of the company's carbon footprint
  • Raised awareness and increase the involvement of the staff employed in reducing energy consumption and costs
