From 2017 to 2018, Nicholas was Director General for Economic Development, Research and Innovation at the Republic and State of Geneva, and from 2013 to 2017, he headed the diplomatic team representing the Swiss economic, trade, finance, science and business interests in the UK.
From 2002 to 2013, he covered the WTO Doha Round, TISA and Accessions as a Senior Swiss negotiator. In 2008 he concluded a diplomatic mediation between China and Chinese Taipei, and in 2011, he was part of the Swiss team successfully mediating between Russia and Georgia.
From 2007 to 2012, Nicholas was Chairman of the WTO Government Procurement Agreement, leading negotiations to improve disciplines for this key world economy sector and concluding a decade-long process at ministerial level while expanding market access valued at US$100 bn/year.
Since 2012, Nicholas has also been lecturing on complex negotiation dynamics, leadership, intercultural communication and global governance at the Graduate Institute of International & Development Studies.
Nicholas holds 1st Class Honours Masters Degrees in Economic History and International Relations from the University of Geneva, the University of Aberdeen and the Graduate Institute of International Relations and Development.
