Dubai, United Arab Emirates The World Trade Club (DWTC) Påmeldingsfrist: 2019-10-20 10.00 Kontakt: Majid Salehi 22.10.2019 00.00.00 22.10.2019 00.00.00 Europe/Oslo Nordic Sustainable Smart Cities Conference The World Trade Club (DWTC) Majid Salehi Majid.Salehi@innovationnorway.no Legg til i kalender

Addressing UAE’s needs for sustainable city developments with Nordic smart city solutions.

Urbanization is one of the strongest global megatrends in this century. UN estimates about two-thirds of the world population will be living in urban areas by 2050. The importance of city regions will therefore continue to grow; however, cities face mounting sustainability challenges along with strain on infrastructure from population growth. Already in 2012, although cities occupied only about 3% of the global land area, they consumed 75% of the natural resources and were responsible for 60-80% of carbon emissions. A sustainable smart city is both a place to live and an economic area that provides sustainable development through the systematic deployment of innovative technologies, materials and services.
The GCC countries are one of the most highly urbanised parts of the world with 85% of the population living in cities today, expected to rise to 90% by 2050. To cope with requirements of their citizens, these cities need smart and sustainable solutions within areas such as energy efficiency, water, transportation, waste management, etc. In this regard, UAE clearly takes the lead on smart city initiatives in the region.
The Nordic region has developed and deployed smart and green city solutions and policies for decades. The Nordic countries offer high quality urban solutions based on the Nordic strengths such as good governance, public-private partnerships, design tradition, environmental and social consciousness and robust technological solutions. Over the years, we have found great benefit in sharing knowledge and collaborating.

Join us for a dialogue with key stakeholders from the UAE and the Nordics on how Nordic solutions can contribute to solve urban challenges in the UAE through an exchange of ideas and concepts, technologies and policies by companies, research communities and government. The conference will have a plenary session followed by four parallel thematic workshops led by a Nordic country. This event takes place on 2nd day of WETEX2019, adjacent to the exhibition arena.

The conference is co-funded by Nordic Innovation as part of the Nordic Sustainable Cities project. Nordic Sustainable Cities project is one of six flagship projects under the Nordic prime ministers' initiative Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges, which is coordinated by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
