Women TechEU is a prestigious scheme under Horizon Europe that supports women-led deep-tech companies with funding, coaching and networking opportunities. The fourth call received 1,107 applications from 43 countries – the highest number to date. Following a thorough evaluation process, 40 winners were selected, including RafX Technologies.

The company is developing RafX SafeNight, which uses sensor technology and AI to continuously monitor patients in acute psychiatry and neurology without physical contact. The technology marks a breakthrough in psychiatric care, where monitoring currently relies largely on manual observation. The aim is to make treatment safer for both patients and staff, reduce stress and enable more efficient workflows. Early detection of critical situations can save lives and improve treatment outcomes.

RafX emerged from a research collaboration between Oslo University Hospital and industry partner Equanostic. The company was established in 2023 to drive commercial development and is led by co-founder Magdalena Gjefle, who has more than 15 years of experience in developing, scaling up and commercialising advanced health technologies.

Women TechEU funding gives the company a solid springboard for further developing its technology and AI solutions.

‘Receiving Women TechEU support is a strong endorsement of our team, our partners and our vision to transform hospital care for the most vulnerable psychiatric and neurological patients. We enter 2026 with a stronger team and a focused development plan towards clinical proof of concept. International recognition as a social impact-driven deep-tech company, together with our participation in Women TechEU, puts us in a strong position to attract venture capital and expand globally,’ says Magdalena Gjefle.

Norwegian companies have performed well in the fierce competition for Women TechEU funding. In the previous call, four Norwegian companies received funding.

‘These awards show that Norway is among Europe’s leading countries in women-led technology development. The strong interest in Women TechEU confirms not only the growing demand for support for women-led deep-tech startups in Europe, but also how RafX Technologies and Magdalena Gjefle are driving pioneering innovation that is shaping the technology of the future,’ says Eva Langslet, Head of EU Programmes at Innovation Norway.

We are the national contact point for the scheme and support companies throughout the application process, either directly through our EU advisors or in collaboration with EU advisors in business clusters.
