Galåvolden Farm wins agricultural award

Galåvolden Gård is now run by the ninth and tenth generations of the Galåen family. For more than 20 years, the winner has offered distinctive local food. The winner has been a prominent participant at regional, national and international food events. Products from Galåvolden Gård are available in supermarkets and specialist shops throughout Norway and are used in restaurants and other professional kitchens.

Jury chair and our Regional Director, Vigdis Harsvik, is impressed by the award winner's work:

'Galåvolden Gård has a strong position in Norway's local food community. The company has worked purposefully with a long-term perspective, combining tradition with modernity, and has been highly focused on development since the outset. We cannot praise this year's winner highly enough,' says Harsvik.

The award winner describes the remarkable journey of growth over the past few years:

‘We are proud and grateful to receive the 2025 Rural Development Award for Trøndelag. Since we began selling eggs locally in 1976 and processing them in 2002, our farm has undergone an incredible transformation,’ says CEO Rune Krogh.

The award winner says they hope this progress will continue in the future:

– The farm's combined operations now comprise two sole proprietorships producing eggs, Galåen Samdrift DA producing milk and meat, and Galåvolden Gård AS processing and selling products. Together, the businesses generate around NOK 40 million in revenue and employ the equivalent of 19 full-time staff. We are very pleased with this, but admit that we still have plans for further development.

In addition to its own ingredients, the winner uses ingredients and by-products from other local food producers in its ongoing product development. Alongside developing new, modern products, the winner has also delved deep into Norway's culinary history. Working with TINE, it has undertaken extensive efforts to recreate Rausjødalsosten. This artisan cheese is based on a recipe dating back to 1856. It pays tribute to Norway's first cooperative dairy, Rausjødalen Setermeieri, which is regarded as the origin of TINE.

The winner has more than ten products that have earned the Specialty label. Most people will find a favourite from Galåvolden Gård, whether it is cheese, ice cream or dessert.

Each year, we award the Business Development Award in Agriculture on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The award recognises those who have built a successful business or industry based on rural and agricultural resources. Each year, one winner from each county receives NOK 50,000. The county winners then compete for the national award of NOK 250,000.
