We support university startups with millions in funding

We are awarding NOK 26 million to companies founded by master's and PhD students. Each company will receive up to NOK 1 million to support further development and growth.

One of this year's recipients of STUD-ENT funding, Urban Ocean develops services that help restore urban marine areas by cleaning the water. Polluted fjords near cities are found worldwide, and the company sees significant potential to expand its services. 'Helping more young Norwegian students choose to start their own business is one of the most important things we do,' says our CEO, Håkon Haugli.

- Norway needs more promising start-ups that can scale and create value for their owners and for the country. It is inspiring to see some of Norway's brightest students choosing to become entrepreneurs! This is vital, and we will do everything we can to help them succeed.

Sharp increase in the number of applicants

This year, competition was tougher than it has been for some time, with the number of applicants rising by almost 50 per cent. Applications came from 14 different universities and university colleges, showing that the whole country is involved in creating new, innovative start-ups. Companies at more institutions than before are receiving grants. NTNU continues to lead the way with the highest number of STUD-ENT recipients, but the funding has been awarded across nine universities and university colleges.

'It is very encouraging to see more students becoming aware of this opportunity. Starting a business is incredibly tough and takes a great deal of work. This kind of support can help entrepreneurs focus on their projects. It is also very important for Norway that more innovative companies emerge,' says Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth.

This year's winners

To apply, you must be registered as a student at a Norwegian university or university college. We received 60 applications from 14 educational institutions and invited 38 applicants to pitch their projects to us. Everyone who receives support from STUD-ENT is also offered a mentor funded by us.

Companies can get help to move forward

Projects that did not secure a STUD-ENT grant can develop their idea through our other funding schemes. For example, you can apply for a grant to assess the market through the scale-up and startup centre. Our advisors can then consider your application alongside other funding schemes and support your project and company as they develop.
