Funding for green business development in the regions

We are looking for strong projects that will create green value and growth. These could include using digital technology in circular value chains, clean production and green energy sources in industry, or reusing residual materials, waste or energy.

'Across Norway, we have world-leading industrial clusters, technology and expertise, as well as abundant renewable resources. With this funding, we will help create more jobs and increase regional value creation, while paving the way for circular solutions and the green transition,' says Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Sigbjørn Gjelsvik (Centre Party).

Three-year initiative

'We are delighted that this funding can now reach businesses and fulfil its intended purpose: fostering close business collaboration and connections between clusters and smaller business communities across the regions,' says Ingelin Drøpping, EVP for Regional and Business Development at Innovation Norway.

This is a targeted three-year initiative designed to strengthen collaboration between established clusters in Norwegian Innovation Clusters and smaller business communities across the regions. The call will support hub-and-node projects and development projects that connect and span established sectors.

'This funding will help connect value chains across sectors and drive green industrial growth in our regions. Just look at everything happening through Grøn region Vestland and the important circular industry projects being brought to the fore. We can achieve this across the entire country,' says Drøpping.

Unused funds

The funding comes from unused funds in projects where the final cost was lower than planned or where, for various reasons, the project did not go ahead. These accumulated funds cannot finance new clusters in the cluster programme, as this would require more permanent funding.

The call is scheduled for publication in May, with a provisional application deadline of 1 September 2023.

'We are planning further calls for proposals in this area in 2024 and 2025 as well,' says Drøpping. 'There is little doubt that this funding will be very welcome at a time when there is a pressing need to develop green industry.'
