Norwegian companies can solve problems facing German hospitals

A delegation of 12 Norwegian companies visited Charité – Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, one of Europe’s largest university hospitals, to showcase their solutions to German hospitals and learn about the needs of the German healthcare system and the major digital reforms ahead. Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre and we at Innovation Norway want to highlight what is possible and the areas in which Norwegian solutions are leading the way.
At the same time, Vestre signed a letter of intent with the German authorities to collaborate on healthcare solutions.
The agreement will focus on cooperation on efficient and sustainable healthcare solutions, and on improving hospital preparedness and response. It will also involve cooperation on research, new technologies and the development of the healthcare industry.
Significant needs and a vast export market
Germany's healthcare system lacks effective, integrated digital patient records, faces long waiting lists and is now undergoing major reform. This will create a need for new technology, and Norwegian solutions could be part of the answer.
Norway faces many of the same challenges as Germany when it comes to staffing needs and waiting times, but is much further ahead in digitalisation. Germany sees Norway as efficient and innovative, making collaboration a natural choice.
In Norway's healthcare export strategy, the industry has identified Germany as one of our most important export markets. The aim of the visit is to open up new opportunities for Norwegian health technology companies. Our office in Germany and the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin are already supporting this work, while the national healthcare export strategy has enabled Team Norway to take an even more proactive approach.
Together with Health Catalyst, an alliance of Norwegian health clusters, we will carry out a series of targeted activities in the German market over the coming years.
