Total exports in 2025 amounted to NOK 2,500 billion. These figures make 2025 the second-best year for Norwegian exports overall, according to the Export Report, prepared by Menon Economics on behalf of us, Eksfin and the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO).

Strongest export growth in the defence industry, power and tourism

The defence industry recorded the strongest export growth in 2025, rising by 28 per cent to nearly NOK 21 billion. Over the past decade, its export value has increased fivefold.

The power industry recorded the second-highest growth in export value in 2025, increasing by 22 per cent from 2024, equivalent to NOK 6 billion. The growth was mainly driven by higher electricity prices. Power exports totalled NOK 33 billion in 2025.

The tourism industry recorded the largest absolute increase, at NOK 18 billion, driven by a 14 per cent rise in overnight stays by international visitors. Total tourism exports reached NOK 99 billion.

'If Norway is to reduce its dependence on oil and gas, we must succeed in building new export industries. This requires targeted efforts, a willingness to take risks and close collaboration between businesses and the public support system,' says Håkon Haugli, our CEO.

Maritime, energy-intensive and seafood industries lead exports

Excluding the oil and gas industry, the maritime industry had the highest exports in 2025, with a total export value of NOK 273 billion.

The industry with the second-highest export value in 2025 was energy-intensive manufacturing, at NOK 196 billion, closely followed by the seafood industry at NOK 174 billion.

Strongest export growth in Troms and Buskerud

Troms recorded by far the highest growth, at 18 per cent, driven mainly by the seafood and tourism industries. Total exports from Troms amounted to NOK 41 billion.

Buskerud also recorded significant export growth of 10 per cent, driven particularly by increased activity in the defence industry. Total exports from Buskerud amounted to NOK 50 billion.

Western Norway counties export the most

As in previous years, the counties in Western Norway accounted for the largest share of Norwegian exports in 2025. Together, the three western counties of Vestland, Rogaland and Møre og Romsdal accounted for 40 per cent of exports excluding oil and gas.

Across these three counties, the maritime industry is the largest export sector, followed by energy-intensive industry and seafood.
