Revised National Budget: Dedicated business initiative in Ukraine

‘Rebuilding Ukraine is Europe’s largest construction project since the post-war period. Many Norwegian companies have unique technology and expertise that can help Ukraine. We are therefore very pleased that Norway is now investing in business cooperation with Ukraine, alongside military support and aid,’ says Håkon Haugli, our CEO.

The initiative is proposed in the revised national budget and marks the first time Norway has opened the door to government-backed business cooperation with Ukraine. We will initially receive NOK 2 million from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries (NFD) to identify specific business needs and launch preliminary measures.

‘Many Norwegian companies want to contribute, but most are unfamiliar with the Ukrainian market and its needs. This initiative is a first step towards building closer ties between Norwegian businesses and Ukraine,’ says Haugli.

We will manage the business initiative in close collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). The MFA is responsible for most of Norway's civilian support to Ukraine, which is provided as aid administered by Norad. The business initiative will operate separately from Norway's aid to Ukraine.

‘The business initiative in Ukraine gives Norwegian businesses a clear role in rebuilding the country. The Ukrainian authorities have ambitious goals for a greener, more digital and responsible reconstruction. We will give Norwegian companies the tools they need to increase trade with Ukraine,’ says Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth.

We have extensive experience in export promotion, market advisory and building networks for Norwegian businesses abroad. Our Ukraine initiative will build on our existing schemes and complement the other schemes we manage.

In the revised national budget, the government also proposes that we should manage NOK 5 billion in funding for green industry.

The Government's proposal for the revised national budget has been submitted to the Norwegian Parliament for approval.
