We have been tasked with bringing together leading decision-makers from business, research and government to strengthen cooperation between Norway and India.

Opportunities under the trade agreement

Prime Minister Modi's visit is the first by an Indian prime minister to Norway since 1983 and highlights the growing importance of Norway's and the Nordic region's cooperation with India in trade, technology, energy, climate, research and international security.

Building on the opportunities created by the 2024 Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between India and EFTA (TEPA), the forum will help increase trade, investment, innovation and industrial partnerships between Norway and India.

The programme includes a series of parallel sector sessions hosted by Norwegian partner institutions and organisations at various venues across Oslo, followed by a summit hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and us at Oslo City Hall.

The event brings together key Norwegian and Indian stakeholders from business, research and government.

Programme

12:00–13:30 | Norway–India: Parallel sector sessions

Parallel sector-specific discussions will take place at various venues across Oslo, bringing together Norwegian and Indian representatives from business and research.

  • Venue: Karl Johans gate 47 (Domus Bibliotheca, Scene Domus Bibliotheca)
  • Programme organiser: University of Oslo

India's medical device market is projected to grow to more than USD 20 billion by 2029, with diagnostic equipment alone reaching USD 6 billion by 2027. As Asia's fourth-largest medical technology market, with 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) permitted in the sector, India offers significant opportunities for innovation, partnerships and investment.

This session explores how Norwegian companies and research communities can contribute to the transformation of India's healthcare sector while gaining access to one of the world's most dynamic and rapidly growing medical technology markets. We will also discuss how India's expanding manufacturing capacity, digital health platforms and cost-effective innovations can support smart, sustainable healthcare solutions in Norway.
