Global Growth is an export programme funded by the Norwegian government to support ambitious, export-oriented companies. We aim to help Norwegian companies succeed as new entrants in international markets or increase their existing sales.
Why Canada?
With strong public support schemes and a forward-looking approach to new technology, Canada creates opportunities for pilot projects and collaboration with local partners. Combined with a stable political climate and close ties to Europe, including participation in the EU's Horizon Europe programme, this gives Norwegian companies a strategic gateway to the North American market and a buffer against global trade disruption.
Horizon Europe opens up opportunities for funding and collaboration between Norwegian and Canadian agritech companies, providing an additional platform for joint innovation projects. Canada also has a free trade agreement with the EFTA countries, which provides tariff-free access for most product groups and offers a significant advantage to Norwegian exporters.
- Vast land areas and large-scale production: Canada's extensive farms and controlled environments create strong demand for advanced technology.
- Mechanisation and automation: These have been integral to Canada's agri-food sector for decades, improving efficiency and output across the entire value chain, from production to processing.
- Economic impact: Canada's agrifood sector is valued at NOK 914 billion and employs more than 2 million people, highlighting its importance and potential.
- Modernisation and efficiency: Canada expects 103,665 jobs in agriculture and 56,130 jobs in food and beverage production to be displaced as automation and technology improve. An ageing farming population and a growing need for efficiency and productivity are among the drivers of continued modernisation.
