Norwegian heritage grain wins agricultural award in Østfold

The proud winner received the award on Monday, 4 November:
'It is wonderful to be recognised, and a real pleasure to receive an award like this. Thank you for the support we have received from Innovation Norway along the way,' says the CEO of Norsk Urkorn AS.
- We would also like to thank everyone else who has supported us in different ways – thank you to all our customers and growers. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful people cheering us on – thank you so, so much!
Our Regional Director for Østfold says the jury was impressed by the award winner's involvement throughout the value chain:
«The jury was impressed by how Norsk Urkorn AS is involved throughout the value chain, from cultivation to finished products based on heritage organic grains such as emmer and landrace wheat. »
- 'Their courses, bakery and farm shop also create positive ripple effects for the local community and other food suppliers,' she says.
In store and online
Two years ago, the company restored the farm bakery, which is now used for baking courses and competence building in the use of ancient grains, featuring recipes developed in-house. The company has also expanded its range to include granola, muesli bars, buns, cakes and several types of bread.
In addition to its own products, the farm sells locally produced goods from other producers, including farm-fresh milk, meat, honey, rapeseed oil and eggs. These are available both over the counter in the farm shop and through the farm's online shop.
The company has also invested in its own dehulling machine, grain cleaner and roller mill, reducing the need to transport grain to the mill. The farm also has a biomass heating system that heats the grain dryer, storage facilities and bakery. The property has two cafés that can accommodate up to 75 people for larger events.
The company also focuses on social sustainability and, through its partnership with NAV, has employed a refugee from Ukraine.
