Received three recommendations on the mission for sustainable feed

Over the past year, an operational group of government agencies has worked on proposals for the design and specific objectives of the Sustainable Feed mission. On Friday 3 November, the proposals setting out a timeline for the mission's objectives and milestones were presented to Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Cecilie Myrseth, Minister of Agriculture and Food Geir Pollestad, and Minister of Research and Higher Education Sandra Borch.
'Through this mission, we have committed to ensuring that all feed for farmed fish and livestock comes from sustainable sources. We have now received proposals for time-bound targets that can help us achieve this. I look forward to reviewing the proposals in more detail and taking this work forward,' says Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Cecilie Myrseth.
'Targeted missions offer a new way to solve complex problems. Norway can take a leading role in ensuring that all feed for livestock and farmed fish comes from sustainable sources. I strongly believe in this approach of focusing on a challenge and coordinating efforts across many sectors towards a common goal. This is how we put research and knowledge to work to create real change,' says Minister of Research and Higher Education Sandra Borch.
‘The government wants to increase Norway’s self-sufficiency in agricultural products and develop more sustainable food production with lower greenhouse gas emissions. Using more local and sustainable feed ingredients in fish feed and livestock concentrate will be important to reduce pressure on the climate and environment, support the green transition in Norwegian food production and strengthen emergency preparedness,’ says Minister of Agriculture and Food Geir Pollestad.
The operational group comprised representatives from nine relevant government agencies and the business support system. We provided the secretariat for this work together with the Research Council of Norway, which also chaired the operational group.
Our CEO, Håkon Haugli, finds it inspiring that the government has chosen to launch a mission closely linked to the green transition. He emphasises the important role businesses play in this work.
‘Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preserving biodiversity are central to Norway’s green transition, and the actions of Norwegian businesses are crucial to achieving our national targets. We look forward to playing our part alongside the business community to support the targets proposed today,’ says our CEO, Håkon Haugli.
The final report was presented on 15 November and is available to download from the Research Council of Norway's website.
