The new 'Made in Norway' label is already a success

Already, 85 Norwegian companies are using the national label in their marketing. The label aims to help more Norwegian businesses succeed in international markets.

Made in Norway will be a protected trademark for Norwegian products exported abroad. It will serve as a mark of quality for Norwegian products and encourage customers to pay more for them.

Norwegian companies offer excellent products and solutions, but we are not always as good at selling them. In many international markets, a clear connection to Norway can add significant value to a company or product.

In demand among businesses

Several countries have their own national marks of origin. Norwegian businesses have called for a scheme similar to Made in Norway. The scheme we are now launching has been developed and refined through in-depth interviews and quantitative testing with 200 Norwegian companies across a range of sectors.

The Norwegian School of Economics, BI Norwegian Business School, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and other stakeholders have been closely involved in developing the scheme, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian Seafood Council and the Norwegian Industrial Property Office. We will manage the scheme to ensure that the label remains industry-neutral and trusted by the public and the market. The label therefore represents shared, independent values.

Sustainable solutions

- 'I hope the Made in Norway label will help Norwegian companies understand the value of drawing on Norway and the positive qualities associated with our country in their own branding and storytelling. By doing so, they join the national team helping to position Norway. This can also enable them to command a higher price for their Norwegian products and solutions in international markets,' says Håkon Haugli, our CEO.

Companies that want to use the label must be able to demonstrate that a significant part of their product or solution is made in Norway, contributes to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and does not undermine any of the EU's six environmental objectives.
