More than expected from Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the world's largest research and innovation programme, with a budget of €95.5 billion for 2021–2027. The goal is for Norwegian participants to secure 2.8 per cent of the funding available through Horizon Europe. New figures show that we have secured 3.35 per cent so far. This amounts to €487.5 million, or NOK 4.9 billion.
'We are meeting our ambitions for Horizon Europe – and exceeding them. Through Horizon Europe, we ensure that innovative Norwegian companies receive support for projects that could play a major role in the green transition and technological development in Europe. These results are very encouraging,' says our CEO, Håkon Haugli.
Norwegian research institutes, universities, university colleges, businesses, health trusts and public sector organisations can apply for Horizon Europe funding, competing with applicants from across Europe. You can also receive advisory from the Research Council of Norway and us.
Horizon Europe offers a range of funding opportunities to pilot, commercialise and scale innovative and profitable solutions. We support Norwegian companies with advisory, feedback, pitch training and reviews of Horizon Europe applications, particularly applications to the European Innovation Council.
Participation in Horizon Europe is one of the most important ways to internationalise Norwegian research. This collaboration improves quality by providing access to expertise, new markets and infrastructure that would be difficult to secure through national schemes. Norway participates on an equal footing with EU countries and has increased its share of research funding year on year. So far in the programme period, Norway has secured more funding from Horizon Europe than it has paid to participate.
‘Projects with Norwegian participants provide access to research and innovation worth NOK 35 billion. Competing successfully on the international stage strengthens our competitiveness and is crucial to Norway’s ability to adapt. Research and innovation are how we create sustainable societies,’ says Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre.
