World Expo is an international meeting place for representatives from business, organisations, research communities, the cultural sector and government. It brings together people and innovations from around the world to address global challenges that require international collaboration. Expo 2025 will take place in Osaka, Japan, with the Nordic countries participating together.

'For this World Expo, we have joined forces with the other Nordic countries in a shared pavilion. Norway and the Nordic region have a strong position in several areas of the green transition, and Expo 2025 Osaka will provide an excellent showcase for this. Together, we are also better placed to build ties with Japan and the Japanese business community. I am delighted that this will become a platform for collaboration and am confident it will be a success,' says Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre.

The World Expo

The World Expo takes place every five years, giving countries and regions an opportunity to showcase innovations and new technologies. In 2025, it returns to Osaka, which also hosted the event in 1970, this time under the theme 'Designing Future Society for Our Lives'.

Expo 2025 Osaka gives the Nordic countries and their business communities an opportunity to connect with the Japanese market through a joint effort to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals in areas such as viable smart city solutions, renewable energy, food security and emissions reduction. Building on the World Expo's legacy of groundbreaking innovations such as the sewing machine and the Eiffel Tower, Expo 2025 Osaka will continue the tradition of showcasing tomorrow's solutions.

We are organising Norway's participation in the Nordic Pavilion and are now reaching out to businesses that could benefit from taking part. Our trade office in Tokyo brings many years of expertise in Japan and the Japanese market, which we will use to support the businesses joining the pavilion.

The pavilion

The Nordic Pavilion brings together Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The pavilion structure itself will reflect the Nordic connection to nature – a cultural value we share with Japan. The entire Nordic Pavilion will be designed and built for reuse.

The pavilion was designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi and AMDL Circle and will be built by Expo contractor Rimond. The 17-metre-high timber structure will cover 1,200 square metres and have a timeless, sustainable appearance. The pavilion will feature a Nordic exhibition area and a rooftop restaurant and Nordic garden, as well as other meeting spaces and a business centre.

The joint pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka will showcase the rich cultural stories of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, rooted in trust, sustainability and innovation.

The Nordic region's position

The Nordic Pavilion aims to capture the interest of all visitors and provide value for Nordic companies with a presence in Japan. It will strengthen the Nordic region's position in Japan while showcasing Nordic innovation and values internationally.

The Nordic countries are now working together to develop the pavilion's theme and content and create a shared concept.
