Norwegian companies want Norwegian products – and are willing to pay for them

A new survey shows that Norwegian businesses are increasingly considering origin when purchasing goods and services. Three in five say it matters where goods are made and services are provided, and almost 80 per cent would choose Norwegian suppliers if price and quality were equal.

The survey reveals a clear trend: Two out of three companies say awareness of origin has increased in recent years. The survey covers 600 representative Norwegian businesses and was conducted by Perseptor on our behalf.

Half of the businesses say they are willing to pay more for products with documented Norwegian origins. Two per cent even say they would pay significantly more. The main reasons are a desire to support Norwegian businesses and local jobs, as well as associations with higher quality and a lower environmental footprint.

'This confirms the importance of Norwegian production and origin. By highlighting their origin, Norwegian companies can showcase their Norwegian roots and the values that come with them, such as quality, responsibility and integrity. Choosing Norwegian is a safe choice,' says Anne Marie Brady, who is responsible for the Made in Norway label.

At the same time, the survey highlights the need for clearer labelling and documentation: one in three respondents find it difficult to know for certain whether a product is genuinely of Norwegian origin.

The results clearly support our work to develop Made in Norway, the new label for products of Norwegian origin. For businesses investing in Norwegian production, this could become an important competitive advantage – both in the market and when engaging with customers who require documentation.

A previous consumer survey showed similar results. Most consumers are also willing to pay more for Norwegian goods and services, and Norwegian origin plays an important role in their purchasing decisions.
