Rygge Meieri produces a wide range of dairy products, including several types of cheese, yoghurt and dairy drinks. It uses only fresh organic milk from the couple's own farm, located next door to the dairy.

Our Regional Director for Eastern Norway, Kristin Willoch Haugen, says the jury is very impressed by what the team from Rygge has achieved:

‘The jury is impressed by how quickly Rygge Meieri has become a local food producer that inspires pride throughout Østfold. Using organic milk from their own farm, they create delicious, high-quality products in the historic premises of Gamle Rygge Meieri – which also provides a strong foundation for telling their story,’ she says.

The proud award winner accepted the prize:

‘I am delighted, proud and grateful to receive the award for Østfold. This recognition means a great deal to me and confirms that I was right to pursue my dream, and that focused hard work pays off,’ says Managing Director Sølvi Gammelsrød.

Locally sourced happiness

She owns the business together with her husband, Stig Gammelsrød. They focus strongly on quality throughout the entire process, from feed and milk production to processing. This has resulted in products of particularly high quality, which have also achieved excellent results in national and international competitions. Since starting in 2019, they have experienced rapid revenue growth while maintaining quality. The winner has also developed close partnerships with other local suppliers, and its products are available through Meny, Oda, the hospitality sector and its own farm shop. The dairy is the only local dairy in the Østfold region producing local food from organic milk sourced from its own farm.

The award winner is based at the historic Gamle Rygge Meieri, where they often welcome visitors to the heritage premises that housed the same type of business almost 150 years ago. Located near the railway station, the building is a prominent local landmark that helps preserve the area's identity.

As the winner says on its website: 'Every single cheese is made with genuine love and a passion for craftsmanship. This makes each cheese unique and gives it a rustic, high-quality character. We call it locally sourced happiness, straight into the cheese vat.'
