Business development in reindeer husbandry-based industries

Reindeer owners and processing businesses linked to reindeer husbandry can apply for grants. The funding supports business growth and can be used for activities including product development, sales and marketing, and network building.

Processing companies owned by reindeer herders, or processing companies that work with reindeer herders to develop speciality foods based on reindeer meat.

Businesses owned by reindeer herders and focused on reindeer-herding tourism, by-products, inland fishing, 'out on the tundra' experiences and other industries based on reindeer-herding resources.

Priorities may vary between counties. Read the regional guidelines for your region.

The grant will help strengthen established reindeer meat and processing businesses and support the existing competitive market.

The grant can also fund activities needed to carry out a project aimed at developing a profitable supplementary business focused on tourism, culture and experiences, or at increasing income for reindeer owners.

Startup grant for reindeer husbandry-based businesses – market clarification

You can receive a grant covering up to 100 per cent of approved costs, capped at NOK 150,000. You can use the grant for market research, customer meetings, networking, sales and marketing events, developing a business plan, idea or product development, testing your solution, competence building, advisory and minor purchases. 

You can use the grant to fund activities that help determine whether your business idea is viable. These may include market research, financial analyses and assessments, developing a business plan and business model, assessing available resources, competence building and basic test production.

Startup grant for reindeer husbandry-based businesses – commercialisation

Grants of up to NOK 1 million, covering up to 70 per cent of approved costs, to commercialise a new product or develop your business.

You can use the grant to fund activities that establish other reindeer husbandry-based businesses. These may include product development, brand and design development, packaging, a website and online shop, competence building and networking, as well as minor physical investments.

Business development for reindeer husbandry-based enterprises

Up to 50 per cent funding for activities that develop other reindeer husbandry-based businesses. This may include market research, product development, brand and design development, packaging, websites, online shops, competence building and networking.

Investments in reindeer husbandry-based businesses

We can provide grants covering up to 40 per cent of investments in equipment, machinery and fixtures and fittings, but only when these are necessary to carry out the development activities. 


1. Complete and submit your application

You can find the agricultural funding application form by logging in to 'My page' with BankID. We will ask you to provide the information and documentation we need to assess your project. In the application, you can use the 'Talk to an adviser' button to ask for guidance before submitting it. Remember, you must submit your application before starting the project.

2. Assessment

We review applications on an ongoing basis, with several people assessing each application. Our guidelines and regional priorities determine which projects we can fund. We receive many applications and have limited funds, so we cannot approve every application.

3. Decision

Your account manager presents your application to the decision-maker. Once we have made a decision, we will notify you by email, and you can find the decision on My page. If we offer you funding, read the terms and find out how we make payments.

Statsstøtteregelverket

Finansiering fra Innovasjon Norge må være i samsvar med statsstøtteregelverket. Det er fem generelle vilkår for statsstøtte som må ivaretas.

Gruppeunntaksregelverket (GBER) er en del av statsstøtteregelverket og er en samling med artikler/støttehjemler som gir oss mulighet til å gi bedrifter støtte i ulike saker. En eller flere artikler kan anvendes i den enkelte saken. Les mer om GBER.

Annen offentlig støtte

Det skal opplyses i søknaden hvorvidt det er søkt eller vil bli søkt annen offentlig støtte til prosjektet. Vår støtteutmåling baserer seg også på en samlet vurdering av hvor mye offentlig støtte som må til for å utløse prosjektet.

Ved fastsettelse av tilskuddsbeløpet legger derfor vi til grunn at det ikke mottas annen offentlig støtte, herunder Skattefunn, enn det som er oppgitt i søknaden. Dette gjelder støtte til finansiering av de prosjektkostnadene som vi har lagt til grunn for beregning av vårt tilskudd (støtteberettigede kostnader). I tilfelle slik annen offentlig støtte, herunder SkatteFunn, likevel blir mottatt etter at vårt tilbud er gitt, og til dekning av de samme kostnadene, vil tilskuddet fra oss kunne bli redusert tilsvarende eller bortfalle.

Dette er ikke til hinder for at bedriften kan motta annen offentlig støtte til andre prosjektkostnader enn de vi har lagt til grunn.
