Grants for biogas and biochar facilities

Farmers, forest owners, agricultural colleges and technology providers.

Individuals or agricultural enterprises intending to establish facilities themselves can apply.

Investments in:

• reactor facilities
• pyrolysis plants
• power and/or heating plants
• storage facilities for fuels and substrates
• equipment for producing heat, electricity and biofuels
• new production technology and solutions at farm level that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase competitiveness

We prioritise environmental considerations, strong climate benefits and substantial renewable energy production.

You must identify the risks associated with leaks and explosions and establish how to manage such incidents, in accordance with the Regulations on the Handling of Hazardous Substances and the related guidance.

You must make the facilities available for the collection of operational data. You must be able to provide details of the energy produced at our request.

You can receive grants for feasibility studies and preliminary projects to establish biogas and biochar facilities. These studies and projects may include the following assessment and establishment activities:

• type and quantity of raw materials/biomass
• total energy production
• energy supply
• environmental benefit/impact of the measure
• type of facility and cost estimate
• profitability calculation
• agreements, tenders and design work

You can receive funding for up to 45 per cent of approved costs, capped at NOK 10 million.

You can receive a grant covering up to 50 per cent of external costs, capped at NOK 50,000 for preliminary studies and NOK 150,000 for pre-projects. Please note that you must provide an assessment of the facility's environmental benefits and explain how you intend to use the energy.

1. Complete and submit your application

You can find the agricultural application form by logging in to 'My page' with BankID. We will ask you to provide the information and documentation we need to assess your project. In the application, you can use the 'Talk to an adviser' button to ask for guidance before submitting it. Remember, you must submit your application before starting the project.

2. Assessment

We review applications on an ongoing basis, and several people assess each application. Our guidelines and regional priorities determine which projects we can fund. We receive many applications and have limited funds, so we cannot approve every application.

3. Decision

Your account manager submits the case to the decision-maker. Once we have made a decision on your application, we will notify you by email, and you can find the decision on My page. If we offer you funding, make sure you understand the terms and how we will disburse the funds.
