Support for investments in environmental protection measures that go beyond EU standards or increase the level of environmental protection where no EU standards exist (GBER Article 36)
Purpose of funding
Investments that go beyond mandatory EU environmental requirements (even if Norwegian environmental requirements are stricter), or that increase the level of environmental protection where no EU standards exist.
Eligible costs
The environmental protection costs where these can be clearly identified as a separate part of the total investment costs. In other cases, you must calculate the additional costs compared with a similar, less environmentally friendly investment that would realistically have been made without the grant.
Exceptions
We cannot provide funding for projects where it is uncertain whether the measure will deliver a higher level of environmental protection.
We cannot provide funding for investments made to comply with standards that have been adopted but have not yet entered into force. The only exception is the purchase of new or 'upgraded' means of transport for road, rail, inland waterway or maritime transport that comply with adopted EU standards, provided you make the purchase before the standards enter into force and the new standards, once mandatory, do not apply to means of transport already purchased.
Aid amounts exceeding EUR 15 million per undertaking per project must be notified to ESA
Aid intensity
The maximum aid intensity is 40% of eligible costs. The aid intensity may be increased by 10 percentage points for medium-sized enterprises and 20 percentage points for small enterprises (SME bonus).
In addition, the aid intensity may be increased by 5% within the regional aid area (regional bonus).
